Absolute Thailand – Absolutely Normal for Timeshare business
September 22, 2006 by Timeshare News
Absolute Developments Corporation, one of Thailand’s longest established sales, marketing and development companies, yesterday reflected the general mood of local business and hotel operators most of whom remain guardedly optimistic that the current bloodless military coup d’etat staged in Bangkok a few days ago will have a very limited impact on the tourism industry of Thailand, provided that events do not turn violent.
This next 24 to 48 hours will be crucial and although at this moment inbound tourists to the island are inquiring about the situation, the general advice from the resort’s management at this moment is that is okay to travel in and out of Thailand. It is generally felt that if the situation remains calm and quiet that the impact will be very limited. But if the situation deteriorates and there is violence in the streets then there would be a serious impact on tourism in Thailand, which currently is enjoying a long run of high occupancy rates after successfully completing a full recovery from the 2004 Tsunami.
Managing Director at the Absolute Sea Pearl Beach Resort in Phuket, Supachart Ruamsamu, said he was not aware of any travel advisories warning against travel to Phuket although there have been government warning about avoiding crowds or gathering in the countries capital Bangkok.
Those in the Thai tourism industry have been fortunate to have a very good tourism authority in Thailand, who have been successfully able to keep politics separate from tourism. Geographically Koh Samui and Phuket are fortunate to have direct flights from other destinations that bypass Bangkok so any effect would be minimal – even though the airport in Bangkok is open and functioning normally.
Svetlana Kostromitina, of Absolute Developments Corporation added that the company has so far not been affected in any of their three sales locations in Thailand (being Phuket, Koh Samui and Pattaya) and it’s business as usual today as normal. ‘Although it is business as usual, we have placed a special news advisory and update request website to help their members stay up to date with the events as they unfold following over a hundred enquiries over night. We look forward to our best high season ever this year’.
Mr & Mrs Davy of Perth, Australia, Club Absolutes newest club members yesterday said ‘Confirmation of loyalty to the King by the military tempered any concerns I had about effects of the coup’ as such they look forward to a lifetime of superb vacations..
