December 20, 2006 by Timeshare News

Architectural Concepts, Inc. (ACI) a San Diego firm regarded as one of the Southwest’s top hospitality-oriented architectural and interior design firms announced design is complete for The Grand Colonial Hotel La Jolla, California; expansion to provide additional high end ocean view guest suites to meet the demand of this historic hotel.

Architectural Concepts is creating sixteen one-bedroom and one two-bedroom suites in a three-story structure with 56 underground parking spaces. The new building will be located on Coast Boulevard South adjacent to and directly behind the hotel. The design reflects on La Jolla Craftsman cottages of the 1930s with splayed columns on a river rock base, wood siding and gabled rooflines.

“We researched the project with the La Jolla Historical Society and utilized design elements from existing buildings in and around the neighborhood,” said Brian Giguere AIA, designer and project architect. “Our goal, as with all of our projects, is to maintain a theme and character of the location. In this case, we are maintaining a varied streetscape with welcoming porches that step back up the hillside which give the project a residential feel.”

We are excited to be working with Architectural Concepts to develop the new 17-suite Grande Villas wing, which will be designed in the classic, craftsman-style architecture prevalent to the area,” said Terrence Underwood, general manager of The Grande Colonial Hotel. “We are committed to preserving and enhancing the fabric of the La Jolla community and we believe this project will contribute to that goal for future generations.”

The project is in the process of obtaining discretionary approvals from the City of San Diego. Construction documents are still to be completed and no start date for construction has been established.
