Resort Management Team Named One of Best Places to Work in Hawaii.
One vacation ownership resort on Waikiki has found an ideal and patriotic use for its small bottled toiletry items by sending them to U.S. troops in Iraq.
According to Luanne Bongiorno, General Manager of the Waikiki Marina Resort at the Ilikai, she was preparing to change out the bathroom amenities in her 80 units when she learned that her daughter’s church preschool was preparing packages for the U.S. troops. Since the school director knew she was in the hospitality business, he inquired if she had any small bottles of shampoo and other items that she could donate. It was explained that the small bottles fit well into the soldiers’ backpacks.
At about the same time, she was planning on replacing the existing toiletry items with new ones and there could be overlapping supplies. An inquiry for approval to Linda Anthony, Regional Vice President of Shell Vacations Hospitality–Hawaii, (dba Shell Management Hawaii, Inc.) came back with a resounding “yes” and the program was launched.
Working with Troy Jarrell, Director of the Miliani Baptist Preschool, a carton of shampoos and other items were recently shipped to the troops.
“Although it wasn’t a huge amount of items, we were very happy to play a small role in helping our troops in Iraq,” added Bongiorno, who was recently named manager at the resort.
Under a separate future program, Luanne will be cutting her long hair and donating it to Locks of Love, an organization that provides genuine hair for hairpieces provided to people undergoing chemotherapy treatments.
Luanne’s employer is Shell Management Hawaii, which was recently named one of the “Best Places to Work in Hawaii” in a highly prestigious annual competition. With executive offices located in Kailua-Kona, Shell Management Hawaii directs the management of five vacation ownership resorts on the Hawaiian Islands developed by Shell Vacations LLC and now part of the Shell Vacations Club.
The Waikiki Marina Resort at the Ilikai is a Shell Vacations Club timeshare property located within the famed Ilikai Resort. As one of the nation’s largest independent vacation ownership leaders, the company also has developed 22 other resorts in seven states, Canada and Mexico and continues to expand in Hawaii, where it currently has five resorts.
